Ever think of riding on a Guatemalan Chicken bus? this is your once in a lifetime chance! Upon meeting the guide at the meet point, we walk to where the chicken buses pass by, we ride it to the main terminal behind the market, and this guarantees that the bus doesn't go as fast, as they are famous for going pretty quick, when arriving to the market, well, this is not just an average market or tour. It was Built by a Guatemalan dictator to give back to the community, this market is a maze! You can literally get lost in it! We want to make sure you see the best it has to offer, including the locals only cafeteria area sheltered within. We take a quick brake there and enjoy a small smoothie at a tourist friendly juice bar. We love our markets and it's a hub for all the family not just to buy produce but to grab a bite to eat or a smoothie or juice before going back to daily chores.
While open every day and of course you can go by yourself, we’ve chosen this day due to specific fresh produce vendors only available this day of the week, which are a great opportunity to both taste and to photograph..
We’ll even visit parts of the market which are not readily accessible to the public, arriving behind the scenes for example is a rare chance to get up close to the colourful Chicken buses hidden behind the market, all lined up for you to easily view (and not choke on the fumes!).
Our Antiguan (but fluent in English) guides may have been born here, but are licensed for the whole of Guatemala and offer a huge wealth of historical knowledge to share with you, so feel free to have your questions ready.
At the end, you’ll no doubt have full shopping bags. We can take a break in the local square and snack on the tostadas & guacamole fresh from the market (which are on us) Sometimes we eat the snacks in the shelter of the market, like true Antigua locals.
Also if anyone wants to put the produce and their cooking skills to the test for dinner that evening at theirs, then who are we to argue with the chef?

Frequently Asked Questions
Our City Manager, Josh, combined with the coolest, most unique local tour guide made the experience all that and more! The market was such a pleasant, hidden surprise just a short walk right in the heart of town. I doubt if I would have discovered it without the tour. The vendors were friendly, the food fresh, colorful, vibrant, and amazing. And it's not just food, there are clothes, technology, flowers, and really - anything you could possibly need. I've been to international markets before. There wasn't that pressure to "buy, buy." I learned so much about Guatemalan culture and food. My only wish is that it could have lasted longer. But I'm comfortable enough to go back on my own. Great experience and highly recommend!
