Valencia is the home of the original paella and nowhere in the world will you find more local foodie paella snobs than in the local towns surrounding the city. Paella is not just a meal, it is an art to be practiced and rarely perfected for a lifetime. The best way to have paella is in the countryside, as traditionally we make paella over open fire or over gas rings, and that is precisely what you will do on this special excursion out of the city. You will learn the intricate details of this elaborate dish of the most typical chicken and rabbit paella, as well as the vegetable paella, while participating in preparing a meal with a wide range of typical Spanish appetizers, olive tastings, drinks and desserts. On your short journey 10km north of the city, you will pass the Horta Nord district, our Northern Gardens, where vast fields of vegetables and tiger nuts grow, amidst orange groves. Vicente, a local paella master, will teach you the many steps to getting this dish just right in a local environment, such as a local social clubhouse on the beach of El Puig or at a picnic area in the orange groves, depending on the weather and day.

Just a fun picnic outside with a cool family.
This is a really fun way to just enjoy the casual but authentic Valencia with real, lovely Valencians. The Paella is delicious and there are many ways to get involved making it, the conversation flows, the setting is quaint and quiet, and the hosts are extremely charming.
If you are very lucky, Vicente Sr. might play you a little tune on his guitar. What could be better than this!?
A laid back and fun cooking experience coupled with local drinks and music. You'll get to learn how to make the paella, the reason behind each step in the cooking process as well as get hands on with the cooking. Highly recommended!
It was great to roll jus a bit outside of town to learn (from Vincent) on how to prepare Pa-Ella. We also had the pleasure of hearing from his father (also named Vincent) a little about their culture. Absolute amazing time.
We then enjoyed the paella (in a park) w/a glass of wine. This prepared us nicely (for our siesta) by the time we returned to Valencia!
Muchas gracias V & SK
If you enjoy cooking, this experience is for you. Also, if you want to know the history and culture involving the making of Valencian paella, this is it! Sarah Kate and her husband do an amazing job of hosting, telling stories, and teaching the traditions of paella cooking. The venue is beautiful, quiet, and worth the brief bus ride. They actually let you cook and put your all into preparing and cooking the food while presenting you with food and drinks. This was one of my favorite experiences here in Valencia! A MUST-DO!!
