Fado is the story of this country and its people. This music talks to your heart and captures your soul. The word Fado translated into English means fate, but the powerful music style is better described as nostalgia and longing. No visit to Lisbon is complete without experiencing this traditional and emotional style of music
During this experience Fado performer Vitor do Carmo together with Elsa Moreira and Jeronimo Mendes will enchant you with a private performance at 4 Caravelas. Learn how this music became part of the culture and influenced Portuguese people during this special evening curated only for you.
And to celebrate the importance of that tradition, we will end the evening with another very special tradition in Lisbon: 4 Caravelas hosted lots of RY programs before us and each of them left their mark on the wall (the name of their program), so we will toast and write the name of our program on the wall at the end of the evening as a memory of the unforgettable experience we are building together.
Included in the experience you will get a glass of wine and some delicious tapas prepared with love by Tanya and Marcus.

Things You Should Know
This event is 100% curated and uniquely special for Remote Year with local Fado singers
Vitor do Carmo was born in Lisbon, in Alfama. Coming from a family of "fadistas", to play Portuguese guitar and to sing fado was a natural outcome. When Jerônimo Mendes came back from the military service, ended up living in Bairro Alto. There, listening to good fado every night, felt in love with the fado and the Portuguese guitar, playing with famous fadistas in Portugal and abroad. Elsa Moreira was born in Alfama and since was a child she was passionate about singing. Then, she decided to make fado part of her life and joined groups of fadistas in Lisbon, singing from the streets to the radios.

Frequently Asked Questions
Usually, I am a brick wall of emotion. Don't get me wrong, my brick wall is graffitied with the most glorious colors of what life can offer and I wear them proudly, but I have a rare condition in which I was born without tear ducts.
Long story short, the doctors were wrong. I cried over the beautiful harmonies of these incredible artists, and my life is forever changed, and a bit blurrier as I remember the sweet, sweet sounds in my mind forever more.
