Itinerary
DAY 1
Morning

At around 04:00 our guide will pick you up at your accommodation to start your trip. You will be traveling for about 1.5 hours to the train station in Ollantaytambo from where you will be taking a train ride to Aguas Calientes (average of 1.5 hours). Upon arrival, our professional guide will lead you to the tourist bus for the transfer to the citadel of Machu Picchu.
On the guided tour you visit the most important places, including the main temples, stairways, squares, roads, among other amazing spaces of this architectural complex, such as the Intiwatana.
After the guided tour, you have free time to explore this extraordinary World Heritage Site on your own. Our guide will indicate where and at what time they will meet again for the return.
Afternoon
Once on the tourist bus, you return to Aguas Calientes to enjoy lunch and continue the adventure in this town, which can only be accessed by train or walking.
Evening
After that, we will return on the train to Ollantaytambo, where you will be spending the night. You can either enjoy the rest of the afternoon/evening relaxing by the hotel or you can take an Uber to visit the small town (15 minutes away) and explore some cool artisanal galleries, grab some delicious coffee or a pint of local beer.

The trip will start in the town/fortress of Ollantaytambo to contemplate impressive constructions and agricultural terraces erected on the slopes of the mountains and get to know the last Living Inca People.
Then you discover the circular terraces of Moray, an archeological site that resemble a sunken amphitheater, and you will learn about the agricultural techniques used by the Incas.

Afternoon
At lunchtime, you will enjoy a delicious picnic in the middle of the Sacred Valley, where you will appreciate the extraordinary Andean landscape that runs through the Vilcanota river.
Next, you will visit the Maras salt mines, one of the largest salt extraction centers of prehispanic origin, an impressive landscape filled with thousands of individual salt pools on a hillside. Absolute must for Peru!

Sacred Valley was the most fun 2-day adventure i've ever had the privilege of attending. Flor, our guide, was an absolute gem! She was intelligent, warm, welcoming, and had the sweetest daughter who joined us for the day. She was amazing with our group, and so helpful to those who were struggling with altitude issues (which will def happen). The hotel was beautiful, the campfire was a highlight, the picnic on day 2 with llamas was great. The bus ride is rough, not going to lie, but you are literally driving into the jungle where roads a scarce. Pack some motion sickness tablets, snacks, and plenty of water. I never felt rushed, we had beautiful weather, and it was a great chance to bond with our RY community!

Come on, it's Machu Picchu

Wow, what a way to see this incredible highlight of the Andes. Our guide was super accommodating, knowledgable, funny and kind and I wouldn't have wanted to do it without her.

Certainly a highlight of our entire trip.

Let RY take care of the logistics

Jam-packed weekend full of bucket list items! The invaluable part of booking Machu Picchu through Marketplace/RY is the logistics are taken care of - there are so many different components and trip-legs to the weekend. Flor - from Guru explorers - was an amazing, knowledgable guide throughout the weekend.

Personal experience: Bring a carry-on bag plus a small backpack for a "day bag". Pack snacks and bring a pillow to nap during van transitions to the next activity. Consider booking a hotel/hostel through the whole weekend so you can leave your "carry-on bag" in one location for the night-over component. The accommodations included are great - we stayed at Del Pilar Ollantaytambo - I plan to recommend to friends/family visiting Machu Picchu in the future.

Llamas and Alpacas - included!!!

Loved it!!

The lunch with the llamas in a picturesque place was favorite. Every part of this experience was well thought out and amazing! Definitely worth the $$ and a must do in Peru.

Highly recommend

Absolute highest recommendation. I would say it's medium level activity. It's definitely not leisure, but not as physical as the Inca Jungle adventure (which sounded so fun, by the way). Get to Cusco a day or 2 early to allow your body to acclimate to the altitude, so you can actually enjoy the activities.
You do not want to miss either this one or the Inca Jungle adventure. Totally worth every hike and penny.
